The project

The brief

Between April 2021 and November 2024 I ran Fotografía Fenutria as a freelance photographer in Seville. Weddings, christenings, first communions, family portraits and events — the kind of work that allows no second take and where logistics weigh as much as light.

I covered every commission myself, from the first phone call to delivery: planning and a location scout, a running order agreed with the family, directing people who are not used to being photographed, developing and retouching, and tailored deliverables — online gallery, printed selection, album. When the job called for it, I coordinated the videographer, the makeup artist and the stylist so the day ran on one schedule instead of four.

It was also the stage that taught me to quote properly and to say no. Projects ranged from €200 to €1,700 depending on coverage and deliverables, and the average rating on Bodas.net stayed at 5.0 out of 5. That is where the part of the craft no generator teaches comes from: reading a room, measuring the light that is actually there and solving it with what you have.

My contribution

  • Planned every shoot with a location scout and a running order agreed with the family.
  • Directed non-professional subjects towards something natural rather than catalogue poses.
  • Shot ceremony, celebration and portraits on available light, adding flash only when the room gave nothing else.
  • Developed and retouched the full take, using one colour profile per event so the gallery held together.
  • Prepared tailored deliverables: online gallery, printed selection and album.
  • Coordinated the videographer, makeup artist and stylist so the day ran on a single schedule.
Getting-ready portrait beside the window, soft light and long shadows.
Detail of hands and bouquet at very shallow depth of field.
Wide frame of the ceremony with light entering from the side of the nave.
No flash, nobody moved: during a ceremony the only variable you get to negotiate is where you stand.

A wedding gives you no second take. That is why half the work happens the week before, with an empty venue and a notebook.
